A short stroll from the city centre, Winnall Moors Wildlife Reserve offers a tranquil boardwalk through reed beds, small streams and interesting benches to rest. Starting off the 12 walks challenge, this is an easy walk that can be combined with cafes, restaurants and shopping in town and also features an urban stretch of the River Itchen in the city.

Highlights of walk#1
It’s a bit surprising to find such a tranquil place a few hundred meters from the high street of a busy country town. In fact, Winnall Moors Nature Reserve is part of the South Downs National park. The park extends towards Winchester in a ‘finger’ along the River Itchen that pokes into town.
If you want to venture further, try walk#2 for a bigger loop around the Wildlife Reserve.

Nice walk, very enjoyable area in Winchester.
I agree with Paul – an easy enjoyable walk but much of the Moors was not accessible when we walked it.
