There are two new benches on Ham Green, a nice little commons with great views towards Sparsholt and Deane. Traffic-wise, Dean Lane is usually quiet and also good for cycling. On the return there is a climb towards Lanham Lane and then a gentle decline back down to Dean Lane. The longer version of the walk combines Ham Green with Crab Wood.
The walk is best enjoyed when you walk to the Dean Lane / Lanham Lane junction from wherever you are in Winchester. Very limited parking.
Below is a slightly longer, 5.9km version of this walk. Other walks in this area include walk#11.
